interACT Brings Broadway and Big Screen to Burgdorff

Community theatre company will present an evening of hits from stage and screen at annual benefit performance.

Some of the most memorable show tunes from Broadway that found their way to big-screen movies will be performed by a young Essex County theatre company at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts in Maplewood.

interACT Sings! Big Screen to Broadway is a two-night celebration June 15-June 16 to raise money for the troupe’s upcoming season. The benefit will include a raffle and auction, as well as a reception for supporters of community theatre on each of the two evenings.

Past productions have included She Loves Me, The Bad Seed and Godspell. In it next season, interACT Theatre Productions will expand to present three main stage productions as well as a children’s theatre show and its annual benefit event. The Crucible, on stage this fall, will be interACT’s first main stage production for the 2012-2013 season. Perennial favorite, Charlotte’s Web will be the children’s production.

“Our mission is to be a more inclusive and accessible form of community theatre,” said Elena Svitavsky president, interACT Theatre Productions. “We want to engage as broad an array of community members as possible, whether on stage, backstage, off stage or in the audience – the magic of theatre should be available to everyone!”

Reflecting the company’s mission of encouraging and incorporating multigenerational casts, Nicholas J. Clarey, the company’s artistic director, has assembled 13 lucky (and talented) performers from age 13 to 68 for the benefit musical revue.
