Kick Off Fall with a Rockin' Rent Party Concert

James Maddock headlines the Sept. 14 concert with Rent Party. Proceeds will go to feed the hungry.

, the monthly Friday night rock concert at the  Lodge that raises money for local food banks, will host a live show on Sept. 14 featuring James Maddock, with special guest Freddie Stevenson.

The concert is from 8 p.m. to midnight, at 220 Prospect St., in South Orange. Tickets are $25 and are available at Maplewood Wine & Liquor at 3 Highland Place in Maplewood.

"We're so excited to have James back," said Rent Party coordinator Chris Dickson. "His first Rent Party show was one that people still talk about and he was terrific at . This is a nice opportunity to see James an an incredibly intimate setting and it's all for a good cause." 

Launched in 2009, the monthly Rent Party concerts have helped to feed thousands by providing goods to the food pantries at  in South Orange and  in Maplewood. Local bands donate their time to play for free and the Elks Club donates its building -- so that all of the proceeds from the concerts to go to the food banks.

With help from a matching grant from , Rent Party Pantry, Inc., a non-profit, has raised more than $30,000 for the food banks. 

"We'd also like to ask folks attending the show to bring a box or two of breakfast bars, which will be donated to the MSO schools," Dickson said.

British-born James Maddock was first recognized in the U.S as leader of the band Wood. Songs From Stamford Hill, which remains a fan favorite ten years later, produced a Top 5 Triple A hit (Stay You) and was included in the first Dawson's Creek compilation. Maddock has become a mainstay on non-comm and satellite radio and continues to tour extensively. 

Freddie Stevenson is a British/American singer/songwriter from Edinburgh whose most recent album was The City Is King. He performs regularly throughout the Northeast both solo and with his band.
