Crane's Deli Announces Closing

Tough day in Maplewood for business with Crane's and Kocafe announcing closings.

The owners of — a Maplewood institution for the past seven years — announced today that they would be closing up shop as of Feb. 25. The store was scheduled to, but r with the landlord.

This time, no such salvation seems to be pending. Steve and Janet Crane sent a farewell message this evening:

Dear Crane's Patrons,

It is with deep regret that on Saturday, February 25, at 5PM - Crane's will be closing its doors. It has been our pleasure to serve you over the past 7 years, but unfortunately the decrease in our volume of business, due to the economic downturn and rising costs has made it difficult for us  to sustain our business model. We appreciate everyone who has supported us throughout the years. (Our future is unknown and look forward to future endeavors.) Should you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 973-763-2050 or via email at cranesdeli@gmail.com.
Our Sincere Thanks for your Loyalty and Support,

Steve & Janet Crane

The news comes on the heels of the announcement this morning that after less than a year in business.

Very sad to hear this -- I literally just ate there today, but didn't know. Crane's was one of the very first places that was recommended to us when we moved to town a few years ago and it was one of the best recommendations we ever got. Maplewood is losing a great institution and a really wonderful food establishment. My wife and I wish the best to Steve, his family and his crew and will be eager supporters of whatever comes next for them!

This is a big loss for Maplewood and especially to us at [words] Bookstore. Crane's has been an outstanding friend and neighbor.
