Downtown South Orange Unveils New Look

South Orange Village Center Alliance kicks off with Monday's SOPAC event.

South Orange Village Center Alliance , a group dedicated to improving downtown South Orange for both merchants and shoppers, has been given a facelift, with a new look, a fresh website, a Facebook page and new opportunities.

The group debuted the new logo Monday night, at a gathering of local business owners, town officials, South Orange Police Chief Jim Chelel, South Orange Fire Chief Jeff Markey, and active community volunteers at SOPAC. Food was provided by Pandang, the newest restaurant in South Orange.

South Orange Village Center Alliance Board Chair Matt Glass introduced the new branding, all of which was paid for through a grant. The new logo, he noted, incorporates the gaslight, the town's initials, and a historic palette of colors. The logo includes the slogan "City Sense, Village Vibe."

"Community first," said Glass. "Then others will follow."

The group replaces Main Street South Orange.

A search is underway for an executive director. In addition, Glass announced, the group is accepting applications for a part-time "street crew" member who will tidy the streets and high-traffic areas during busy times.

The group has big plans and a wealth of energy. However, Glass noted volunteers are "the heart of South Orange."

A wide-range of volunteer responsibilities is also available, from planning events to talking through business concerns.
