JC's Closet Celebrates Grand Opening

South Orange's newest boutique offers unique, family-friendly shopping.

JC’s Closet, a new kids boutique located at 19 Scotland Road, commemorated its opening with a Grand Opening Celebration Saturday. South Orange resident Kimberly Minor owns the shop with friend and business partner Joanne Watkins.

“The store is named after my son,” said Minor, whose initial concept for the store was to cater to boys. “After talking to other people, I realized we couldn’t leave out girls or moms.”

The shop, which is next door to SparkHouse, contains fashion-forward clothing for boys and girls, as well as jewelry for moms and teens. Most of the clothes are from lesser-known designers from places like Barcelona and Brooklyn. “We’re an urban fashion destination in the suburbs,” added Minor. She has a background in fashion and has worked for companies such as Bongo. The racks and tables at JC’s Closet include everything from t-shirts, hoodies, and vests, to jeans, coats, and backpacks.

Watkins’ jewelry line, Jewel Be Dazzled, is featured in the store and includes earrings, necklaces, and rings. When it comes to clothes, you won’t find lots of versions of the same item. “We’re marketing ourselves as a boutique, where you can find something that’s unique,” said Watkins, who has a background in marketing.”

Throughout the day, the series of events featured a ribbon cutting, faux tattoos, and raffle giveaways. For store hours and more information, visit www.jccloset.com or call 973-255-7277
