New Store Looks to Fill All Your 'Stuff' Needs

Stuff, a new local shop, brings in the old country store feel.

When asked what he sells at South Orange’s newest store, , owner Roy Scott keeps his answer short and simple;

“Stuff,” he says.

The new store, located at 50 W South Orange Ave, is a throwback to old-fashioned antique shops.  They have everything from fainting sofas to antique juicers to classic candy.

“We want to be like a country store,” says Scott.  “Everybody specializes in something; we want to have a little bit of everything.”

Stuff’s formula is unique.  Co-owner Steve Rella searches for antique “finds” in various ways, be it estate sales, garage sales and internet sites.  The antiques are then refurbished and repaired so that they are in good shape and sellable.  Stuff then sells it for a reasonable price.

“I love going antique shopping and I love going to quaint little towns that have these shops that have a little bit of everything,” said Scott.  “But they’re all overpriced.  It took the fun out of antique shopping.  So whatever I put in here will be very reasonably priced compared to what it would sell for elsewhere.”

The current stock in the store has antique glassware, homemade jewelry, various signs and other knick-knacks.  However, since most of the items are one-of-a-kind, the store’s inventory will always be changing.

Stuff Village Mercantile is open Tuesdays – Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  They can be reached at 973-763-9090.
