Orange Merchant Donating to Fire Victims

Shoe Spot is donating this week's proceeds to assist families displaced by a massive fire.

Eight families were left homeless by a four-alarm fire that raged through a building on Main Street in Orange on December 7. The building was so severely damaged that it had to be demolished.

Now, Shoe Spot, a store adjacent to that building, is stepping in to assist the displaced families.

"(We) are seeking to help provide aid to those displaced families and neighbors who have lost so much, due to this fire, so close to the holidays," said Manny A. Muñoz, a representative of Shoe Spot, Inc.

While the store was not damaged by the fire, it was evacuated and closed during days of investigation and demolition, said Muñoz. The store has now re-opened.

Shoe Spot is donating all of its proceeds from sales this week (until Friday) to the displaced families of 214 and 216 Main Street, as well as collecting donations from customers and the community of the Oranges.

"We are reaching out to spread awareness for the loss of these families, hoping that the Oranges and other New Jersey residents will help take part in this cause," Muñoz said.

Customers can contribute as they shop, or can just stop by to make a donation. For more information, contact Muñoz at mannymunoz31@gmail.com.
