In an exciting new development leading up to the South Orange and Maplewood Studio Tour, local businesses are teaming up with local artists to host a series of exhibitions.
These exhibitions are the brainchild of Baird Center Director of Cultural Affairs, Sandy Martiny. Martiny brought together The Baird, the South Orange Village Center Alliance, and artists to create ABC = Art & Business Connection.
ABC will present its first series of exhibitions from May 9 until June 2, 2013 in anticipation of the 10th Annual South Orange and Maplewood Artists Studio Tour.
Participants include the following:
- Sculptures and paintings by Russell Christian at Gutten Parts, 213 Valley St, 1st floor. For more on Russell, watch his video interview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0nRVGmW2xo
- Prints and drawings by Ann Vollum and Allie Takahashi at Papillon 25 Martini Bar & Restaurant, 25 Valley St. For more on Ann Vollum, watch her video interview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BysITPZTH3Q
- Photography by Steve Vaccarielo at Spark House Studio, 15 Scotland Rd
- Photomontage by Luis Alves at Robyn Ross, 67 South Orange Ave
Opening receptions will be held at each location on May 9 from 7-9 p.m.
"The arts help to define and bind communities, incorporate diversity, and attract new customers and investments to business," said Sandy Martiny. "Art & Business Connection will enhance the value of our community through the collaboration of talented artists and unique businesses that call South Orange home."
In addition, the Rebel Yarns artist group organizes the Signs of Spring Butterfly Scavenger Hunt for which participants must find and collect as many orange, crocheted butterflies between the towns and businesses of South Orange and Maplewood to win prizes. The Scavenger Hunt begins May 9 and ends on June 2.
