'Cake Boss' Films Episode at Animal Shelter

Buddy Valastro brought treats for shelter pets to party celebrating 20 million adoptions facilitated by Petfinder.

St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in Chatham played host to an episode of "Cake Boss" on Saturday, with members of the show's cast and crew filming scenes for an episode celebrating 20 million adoptions facilitated by Petfinder, an online database of animals who need homes. St. Hubert's is one of many pet shelters where South Orange and Maplewood residents find their animal companions.

The episode is expected to air sometime this fall on TLC.

St. Hubert's Vice President Nora Parker said the shelter was a natural place to hold the party because St. Hubert's was one of the first organizations to use Petfinder, which was founded in New Jersey in 1996. Petfinder was acquired by Discovery Communications, the same company that owns TLC, in 2006.

A note on the St. Hubert's website said,

Petfinder was “born” in NJ and St. Hubert’s was one of the very first to sign on and broaden the exposure for our adoptable pets. So, where else but St. Hubert’s would the party take place? And who else but the Cake Boss, Buddy Valastro, would be making the cake—and of course a special cake for the shelter pets too! The episode, which will air this fall, is filming right here at St. Hubert’s on Saturday and we’re so excited to play such an important part in the festivities!

The episode features show star Buddy Valastro, an East Hanover resident, baking a cake for the party.

Those who attended the cake brunch were sworn to secrecy as to what the cake looked like and how it came out, Parker said.

But one detail about the cake did appear on the St. Hubert's Facebook page: "Tasted as good as it looked!"
