South Orange's Year in Review

We had a mild winter to bring in 2012 and what a full year followed! Patch was there as we brought in the summer with South Orange Middle School student protests, and welcome the new school year in fall.

Now, as the year closes, we look back at memorable issues in South Orange, linking to some of the most-read stories of the year. 

Superstorm Sandy and its aftermath grabbed our attention. We coped without power, many of us taking daily refuge in local houses of worship. We clamored for information about power restoration, where to buy gas, and challenging commutes. 

South Orange commuters talked back to NJTransit (and continue to do so) about an October schedule change that means fewer stops and fewer seats.

Middle school students protested the district's choice not to award tenure to two Social Studies teachers at South Orange Middle School. The district upheld that decision upon appeal. 

Zach Braff came to town, marking the retirement of longtime teacher "Ma" Wright.

And, while crime is down according to a recently-released report, we read of shoplifters and a stuck truck.
