The Walsh Gallery at Seton Hall University presents “Anamnesis,” a group exhibition illuminating the theme of memory.  The exhibit taps into this time-honored art historical topic through a contemporary framework.  Featuring artists Arianna Carossa, Michelle Mackey, Kara L. Rooney, Shuli Sadé and Gerald Slota, the show approaches the theme with a variety of media and personal interpretations.  The exhibition is curated by Jeanne Brasile, Director of the Walsh Gallery.

Carossa’s
research-based art practice is not specific to a singular medium or

discipline.  Her interests lie in
revealing the disruptions between reality and fiction.  Mackey’s paintings coalesce a variety of
sensory inputs and imagery that trigger associations with time and space.  Rooney’s installation mines subliminal
audience response by digging into personal and collective experience.  Working in the realm where art and science
intersect, Sadé’s photographic and video works are the result of her
collaborations with neuroscientists.
Photographer Slota uses appropriated photographs, altered to create a
psychological tension referring to cultural preoccupations with family,
childhood and nostalgia.  Curator Jeanne
Brasile notes that she selected artists approaching the subject through what
she refers to as “memory practices,” which are elastic in nature and
interdisciplinary in practice.
