The Eleventh Annual South Orange Maplewood Artists Studio Tour

Over 60 artists exhibit their latest work in their own studios or in group venues. Artist work in a range of  media including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, jewelry, photography, collage, and clay. Preview artists work at www.studiotoursoma.org. Each artist has a small gallery on the site, with links to their professional websites. View videos of selected
artists who talk about their work and their creative process. The website map has searchable options for people with particular tastes.  Search by
genre, media, location and accessibility- including studios that are family
friendly or bike friendly.  Tour takes place rain or shine Sunday June 1
11am-5pm. Maps available at the Baird, Gallery 1978 and Gallery 103.

Special this year:

The Woodland, formerly known as the Maplewood Woman’s Club.  This awesome space will house some of the largest works of sculpture on the tour, a band and the Story Door Project created by the Community Coalition on Race.  In addition, there will be live painting demonstrations going on throughout the day by the Visual Passion Duo. They will be painting live on stage at 12:00 and 3:00 pm. After the tour, from 6-8pm The Woodland will be the site of the Studio Tour After Party. The party is the place artists and their patrons will unwind after a great day showing,talking about and selling artwork. The party is open to the public.

This exhibition is in connection with the SOMA Artists Studio Tour and features artists who are friends and neighbors of SOMA, but who do not live in South Orange or Maplewood. It celebrates the range of creative work that is nurtured and produced in the region and the importance of strengthening the bonds of the creative community. Home is an exhibition of small works by studio tour artists at Papillon 25 Restaurant and Martini Bar, South Orange.NJ. Papillon 25  s supporting the tour by hosting this exhibition and the pre tour artists party. The show will be installed May 30.

ABC = Art + Business Connection is back this year with new artist and business partners. This is an innovative series of exhibitions produced by the Baird and the South Orange Village Alliance featuring works by South Orange and Maplewood artists, hosted by South Orange businesses on view  May 8th- June -28. The Walsh Gallery at Seton Hall University,  400 South Orange Ave, South Orange is presenting the exhibition Anamnesis  from Sunday June 1- Thursday, July 10. The opening reception will be Thursday, June  5, 5-9pm. Curated by Jeanne Brasile, the exhibition features artists drawing on the subject of memory which is examined from a number of perspectives including neurological, cultural, historical, political and personal interpretations of the subject featuring Arianna Carossa, Michelle Mackey, Kara L.
