Mr. Jeffrey Cohan and Rabbi Eliyahu Soiefer will discuss why many leading rabbis throughout the Jewish world have espoused vegetarianism as a religious ideal and will offer an exegesis of Biblical texts regarding diet and our relationship with animals on March 25, 2014 at Seton Hall University in the Walsh Library’s Beck Rooms.
Mr. Jeffrey Cohan is the Executive Director of Jewish Vegetarians of North America. He received his Master of Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from University of California, Berkeley.
Rabbi Eliyahu Soiefer is an educator at Stein Yeshiva in Yonkers. He received his Rabbinic ordination from Yeshiva Kol Yaakov in Monsey, New York and his Masters of Education at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York.
Dr. Judith Stark, Director of the Environmental Studies Program at Seton Hall University, will offer a response to Mr. Cohan’s and Rabbi Soiefer’s presentation. Dr. Stark’s articles on ecological and human rights issues have been published in Philosophy and Geography and the Journal of Applied Ethics. Dr. Stark earned her Ph.D. at the New School for Social Research.
