Lauryn Hill To Perform Seven Shows Before House Arrest

South Orange native Lauryn Hill to perform last minute tour before house arrest.

South Orange native and Columbia High School graduate Lauryn Hill will be performing seven shows before beginning her house arrest on New Year's Day.

Hill, the Grammy-award winning singer , was sentenced to three months in prison in May for not paying taxes on more than $2.3 million in earnings over a five year period.

A judge granted Hill permission to postpone her three-month house arrest until New Year's Day.

To mark her release from prison, the eight-time Grammy winner released a new single called “Consumerism," according to Rolling Stone Magazine.

“Hill speed-raps through a laundry list of societal ills over a chaotic rhythm that's more Death Grips than 'Killing Me Softly,'” the article states. “Her pointed voice brutally targets 'corporate greed in Jesus’ name,' decrying ageism, sexism, racism, fascism, 'compromised commercialism' and 'neo-McCarthyism.'”
