Seton Hall Donates Tablets to South Orange Fire Department

Tablets and computers will be used to pull up floor plans during an emergency.

Seton Hall University is getting into the holiday spirit a bit early this year, by donating four Panasonic Toughbooks, two Windows 8 Laptops and Two Windows 8 Tablets to the South Orange Fire Department.

Seton Hall Vice President Dennis Garbini and AVP John Signorello presented the devices to Village President Alex Torpey, South Orange Fire Chief Jeff Markey, Trustee Sheena Collum, Village Administrator Barry Lewis and Deputy Administrator Adam Loehner.

“I'd like this equipment to represent our continuing appreciation and support of the South Orange Fire Department and administration,” said. “Hopefully this equipment will assist you in supporting the Village and help save lives.”

“The partnership with the University is extremely important,” said Torpey. “I think what we've been trying to do with Seton Hall is build a relationship where we focus on things of value that we can bring to each other.”

The technology will be used at the scene of an emergency to access floor plans and incident response plans as well as for inspection personnel to record data during their inspections.

The devices are up to military standards which means they are resistant to heat, water, smoke, drops and still work under the harshest of circumstances.

“This will enable the firefighters to have information about building layouts at their finger tips,” said Markey. “The additional tablets will be used to expedite the fire inspection process and improve fire safety, not only for the public, but for the firefighters.”
