Seton Hall Radio Station to Broadcast All Christmas Long

Seton Hall University will be broadcasting all holiday-long for their WSOU Christmas special.

WSOU 89.5 FM, the radio station of Seton Hall University, offers special programming for the holidays.

Highlights include A Franciscan Christmas (Dec. 24, 8 p.m.) with Brother Greg Cellini of the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn, The Bells of Christmas (Dec. 25 8:30 a.m.), and WSOU’s annual Top 89 Countdown on Dec. 31 (beginning atnoon).

As is WSOU’s tradition, the station will broadcast Mass live on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. From now through Dec. 25, WSOU’s regular loud rock music programming will include Christmas classics covered by heavy metal, punk, hardcore, and post-hardcore bands.

WSOU Christmas Eve Programming, Dec. 24, 2013  

A Franciscan Christmas (8-10 p.m.) – Brother Greg Cellini of the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn hosts a Christmas Eve live call-in program examining how it is in giving that we receive. Brother Greg’s guests will include Seton Hall nursing student Hillary Sadlon ’14, who celebrated her 22nd birthday by performing 22 acts of kindness for strangers. Her story has inspired others at Seton Hall to launch the 12 Acts of Christmas Kindness campaign, an initiative encouraging all members of the Seton Hall community to perform 12 acts of kindness throughout the holiday season. Also featured during the program are choral works performed by a Gregorian Schola, a sharing about how St. Francis of Assisi was instrumental in helping the Nativity scene become one of the universal symbols of Christmas, and reflections upon the first few months of Pope Francis’ papacy. Listener calls will be welcomed throughout the program at 973-761-WSOU (9768)  

Mass (10 p.m.-Midnight) – Live broadcast of the Christmas Eve Mass from Our Lady of Sorrows Church in South Orange, NJ.  

Seton Hall Christmas Message (midnight) – Christmas greetings from Seton Hall University President A. Gabriel Esteban, followed by an hour of Catholic Christmas music.  

Christmas Power Cuts (1-6am) – Blocks of Christmas carols covered by heavy metal bands.  

WSOU Christmas Day Programming, Dec. 25, 2013  

Christmas Oratorio (6 a.m.) – WSOU’s annual presentation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. This airing of Bach’s masterwork has become a Seton Hall tradition. For 2013, WSOU presents a recording of the Christmas Oratorio by The Bach Choir of Bethlehem with The Bach Festival Orchestra conducted by Greg Funfgeld.  

The Bells of Christmas (8:30 a.m.) – Traditional Christmas carols with special accompaniment by a bell choir.  

A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols (9:00 a.m.) – Biblical readings and carols in celebration of the season.  

The Spirit of Giving with Jane Seymour (10 a.m.) – Actress Jane Seymour narrates the story of Good King Wenceslas. The program also features performances of Deck the Halls, Sing Forth this Day, and Angels from the Realms of Glory. 

Music from the Messiah (10:30 a.m.) – Familiar selections from Handel’s Messiah with soloist Erin Palmer Morley.  

Mass (11 a.m.) – Live Christmas Day Mass from Our Lady of Sorrows Church in South Orange, NJ, followed by the annual Christmas greeting from Seton Hall University President A. Gabriel Esteban.  

Christmas Mix (Noon) – Christmas carols and songs the whole family a sign along to.  

A Merry Metal Christmas (12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.) – A festive mix of music for hard rockers.  

WSOU New Year’s Day Programming  

The Loudest New Year (midnight-6 a.m.) – As the clock strikes midnight to ring in 2014, WSOU starts spinning its very loudest rock to carry revelers through the rest of the night.  

The Top 89 Countdown – Beginning at noon, WSOU counts down the Top 89 Heavy Metal, Punk, Hardcore, Post-Hardcore, and loud rock albums from 2013. Listeners will have the chance to win WSOU prize packs during the countdown.
