1,000 Gather to Mourn Slain Livingston Teen

No new information in the case as Brendan Tevlin is laid to rest.

More than 1,000 people filled St. Philomena Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday to mourn the Livingston teen killed last week in West Orange.

Brendan Tevlin, 19, a Seton Hall Prep grad who just completed his freshman year at the University of Richmond, was shot multiple times late last Wednesday night in the area of Northfield Avenue and Walker Road.

Tevlin had just finished playing video games at a friend's house in West Orange and was supposed to be heading home at the time of the attack. No arrests have been made and no motive has been announced.

"It's not supposed to be like this. The community is living in fear of senseless violence," the Rev. Brian Needles told the congregation gathered to pay their final respects at Tevlin's funeral, according to The Star-Ledger.

"It's just not supposed to be like this. Nothing can really explain away tragedy and evil like this. At the end of the day, we're confronted by a mystery."

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office released last weekend photos of two men who may have witnessed the homicide and the Essex County Sheriff's Office increased its reward to up to $25,000 in the case. But still no new information has been released.

Anyone with information on Tevlin's death can contact the prosecutor's office at 877-847-7432 1877.
