All People Matter - A Tradition

March is National Professional Social Work Month, a time to recognize the role that Social Workers play in helping millions of people function better in their daily lives while overcoming life’s tragedies and obstacles.

The work of social workers is rooted in a 125 year tradition of helping others.  This tradition began in Chicago with the establishment of Hull House by Jane Addams and Ellen Gates Starr, two social reformers of that time.  Hull House became one of America’s most famous settlement houses, providing social services to immigrants and the poor, based on the belief that all people matter.

Today, there are more than 600,000 highly trained social workers in the United States helping people get on the right path in life and realize their full potential.  This includes FAMILYConnections staff – all working every day to improve the lives of our consumers.  This tradition dates back to 1879 when FAMILYConnections was the Registry Society, an organization serving children and families in the Oranges and Maplewood.
