NATIONAL FAMILY WEEK - The Importance of Family

Thanksgiving and National Family Week are a time to remember the importance of strong families

These past weeks have been challenging and traumatic for all New Jerseyans, and in such times of great stress we are reminded of the importance of family in our lives.  When disaster strikes, it is often family support and togetherness that help us pick ourselves up and keep going.

Next week is not only Thanksgiving but National Family Week.  These are both times to celebrate the importance of strong families.  As stated in President Obama's Proclamation, "American families rely on their love and care for each other to face challenges.  During National Family Week we celebrate the resilient spirit of American families and their role in building vibrant communities and a strong Nation."

These words are especially meaningful this year as New Jersey communities begin to rebuild.  And strong families don't only create safe and caring communities that support each other during difficult times.  They also help children live better lives and grow to be confident adults.  They help us all prosper and thrive.

This year, as we celebrate the start of the holiday season - one which will be difficult for many New Jersey families - let us remember the importance of family by honoring and supporting those we love.
