After iPhone Thefts at Pool, Town Warns Patrons to Secure Valuables

Three phones reported stolen from South Orange Pool in one day.

The South Orange Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs warned visitors to the South Orange Pool to secure their valuables after several iPhones were reported stolen Thursday.

"We would like you to be aware that several patrons reported the theft of personal items on pool grounds yesterday," said the warning, which was emailed to residents. "Among the items taken were three iPhones."

The email provided the following tips from the police department:

  • If you do not have tracking software on your smart phone, consider installing it (free, in some cases).
  • If your smart phone is taken, contact the police department immediately, before having your phone shut off.
  • Thieves are frequently caught if action is taken quickly.
The recreation department suggested visitors keep valuables secure at the pool, consider using lockers located in the bathhouse, and report any suspicious activity to the pool manager.
