Armed Robbery of Two CHS Students, Police Say

The students were on their way home from a basketball game.

Two Columbia High School students walking home from a basketball game on Parker Avenue Monday night were robbed of a cell phone by two juveniles wielding a handgun, said Capt. John Perna of the Maplewood Police Department.

The students were walking home from the high school at around 8 p.m. when they were approached by two males in their late teens near the intersection of Richmond Avenue, said Perna. One of the teens, who was reported to be carrying a handgun, asked one of the two students for her cell phone, Perna said.

After the student turned over her phone, the two teens left and fled eastbound on Parker Ave.

The police department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the Maplewood Police Department Detective Bureau at 973-761-7905..

We currently have a group like that in the Seth Boyden area. We work closely with the police dept and our numbers are growing. It seems to be very effective and it is also a great way to bring the neighborhoods together and shows solidarity and unity. It also makes the surrounding areas think twice before they come into Maplewood thinking they can do whatever they want. We strongly suggest other sections of Maplewood do the same thing. As I said the police dept is extreamely supportive and will help you get started.

Why does everyone think the perps are from towns other than Maplewood?

I think that's a great idea. I don't have kids but I would still be interested in joining a group to help in the effort.

PPP You don't have to have children to put together or join such a group as we like to say the more the merrier. If you need more info just log onto the police web site and on the left there will be the Anticrime unit. Just get in touch with any of them or get in touch with Officer Reeves and he can direct you.

I didn't say I did. In fact, I know NOTHING about the perps other than their gender because they aren't described in the above article or mentioned on our town's blotter: http://www.maplewoodpd.org/Blotter.php Why aren't descriptions and sketches being released? Again, how tall were they? What were they wearing? What did they look like? Did they have any notable characteristics? Facial hair? Markings? Accents? Anything?
