Orange Teen Charged With Murder of Maplewood Man

An 18-year old Orange man was charged with the murder of 23-year old Marving Dauphin of Maplewood, officials say.

An 18-year old Orange man was arrested following the shooting death of 23-year old Marving Dauphin of Maplewood, officials announced Wednesday.

Dauphin was shot and killed on Tuesday, Oct. 1 in the 400 block of Laurel Street in Orange. Laurel Street is just a few blocks from the borders of South Orange and West Orange.

Raquan Laney, 18, of Orange was arrested and charged with murder, announced Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Orange Police Director Hakim Simms.

“Detectives in the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes officers from Orange, were able to identify a suspect,” they said in a written statement.

Laney is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility. Bail was set at $750,000.

The investigation is active and ongoing, officials said.
