Columbia HS Grad Killed, Family Seeks Funds for Burial

A member of the Columbia High School Class of 2001 was shot in Newark

A Columbia High School 2001 graduate was one of two men shot in Newark on Thursday, October 12. David Eze's family is now seeking community help for a funeral.

Eze, who lived in Irvington at the time of his death, was shot in the 500 block of S. 14th Street. He died in the hospital, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and Newark police. The other man, a West Orange resident, was also shot but survived.

Friends of Eze have posted online appeals for funds for a "Home Going Service." Eze is described as a "brother, father and friend." According to the posting, "David did not have any life insurance and although we have reached out to many sources both family and non family we are still left coming up short."

According to his Facebook page, Eze earned his AS degree in Business Administration.  He wrote, "I will get my BA in Business Management and my masters in Business and get my Doctorate in Economics."  He planned to someday run his own business, "a clinic that will help people with drug diseases."

No arrests have been made in the shooting. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
