Man Arrested After Reporting Fake Carjacking and Kidnapping

A Berkely Heights man was arrested for filing a false police report, police say.

A Berkley Heights man was arrested after filing a false police report involving a carjacking and kidnapping, according to a recent police report.

Nabil Talsmat, 36 of Berkley Heights reported that a carjacking and kidnapping had occurred in South Orange on Saturday, Aug. 31.

A detective assigned to the case “determined that the subject Mr. Talsmat had fabricated the incident and no such crime had taken place in South Orange,” police said.
