Maplewood Man Robbed in South Orange

A Maplewood man was sitting on a bench when someone stole his cell phone.

A Maplewood man was robbed while sitting on a bench in South Orange, according to a South Orange Police report.

The man, who was not identified by police, was sitting on a bench on Sloan Street around 9:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16 when a man hit him in the leg and grabbed his cell phone.

The thief was described as a black man in his late teens wearing a white hooded sweatshirt.

After taking the cell phone he ran East on South Orange Ave. and was last seen running North on Vose Ave., police said.

Police searched the are but did not find him. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
