Maplewood Youths Accused of Having Realistic-Looking Gun

South Orange police discovered the youths had a metal pellet gun that resembled a real firearm on Irvington Avenue.

Two Maplewood youths were arrested Friday in South Orange for carrying a realistic-looking pellet gun on Irvington Avenue, police said.

A call came into the South Orange Police Department at 4 p.m. Friday, informing police that two kids were walking on Irvington Avenue with a weapon, according to the report.

Officers responded and found the weapon was a metal pellet gun that resembled a real gun.

A pellet gun is still considered a firearm, whether it shoots metal pellets or paintballs, South Orange Police Capt. Kyle Kroll said.

The pair were taken into custody and processed at police headquarters.
