On the date of the burglary, a South Orange man returned home and found someone on the second floor of his home, police said. The man told the homeowner he was a salesman before fleeing from the house, police said.

Police determined at the time that he had entered the single-family home by breaking a pane of glass on the front door and then reaching in and unlocking the door.
