Police: Two Teens Arrested For Cell Phone Robberies

South Orange and Newark teens arrested following cell phone robberies.

Two teenagers were arrested, Monday, after two separate robbery incidents in which cell phones were stolen, according to a South Orange Police report.

A South Orange man was walking on Mead St. near the railroad bridge around 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, when he was knocked to the ground and robbed of his cell phone, police said.

“The victim stated that the actor was a black male in his teens and was observed to be wearing a blue Adidas jacket,” the report said.

Police stopped a 15-year old boy from Newark who matched the description on Irvington Ave. near College Pl.

He was positively identified as the assailant and had the victim's cell phone when he was stopped, police said. He was arrested and processed at police headquarters.

A 14-year old South Orange resident was also arrested on robbery charges after a victim of a previous robbery spotted the teen and notified the police.

On Friday, Sept. 20, a South Orange officer was on patrol around 7:30 p.m. when he was approached by a resident who told him that the teen who stole his cell phone was standing on Sloan St.

Officers stopped the teen and after further investigation determined that the youth was in fact responsible for the theft and had the victim's phone.

The teen was placed under arrest and processed.
