Teens Accused of Robbing, Assaulting 64-Year-Old South Orange Man

Resident was robbed, choked and thrown to the ground near his Holland Road home Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Four Newark teens were caught after robbing and assaulting a 64-year-old South Orange man near his Holland Road home Monday afternoon, police said.

The man was walking near his home at about 4:45 p.m. Monday when five young males approached him from behind and robbed him of his backpack, according to a South Orange Police report.

The robbers grabbed the victim by his throat and threw him to the ground, the report said.

Police saw a group of teens matching the description walking on Eastern Parkway in Newark shortly after the incident, the report said. The group fled when they saw police.

Officers chased them through backyards on Ellery Avenue in Newark before catching them and placing them under arrest, police said.

The robbers were identified by the victim as those responsible, the report stated.

Three of the teens are from Newark and one lives in East Orange, police said. A fifth robber remains at-large.
