Teenaged Boys Implicated in Strong-Armed Robbery, Attempted Carjacking

Recent South Orange arrests involved teens from Newark and East Orange.

 

South Orange police have made arrests in an attempted carjacking, a strong-armed robbery and a weapons charge all involving teenaged boys in the last few weeks, police said Tuesday.

In the first incident on Nov. 14, a woman told police three Newark youth – two 15-year olds and a 14-year old, tried to force their way into her car.

The woman sounded her horn repeatedly and the boys ran away, police said.

Witnesses told police the teens were seen hiding in bushes behind a house on Cameron Road and then on Milton Place.

Police chased the teens through several yards before catching them.

The boys were taken to the Essex County Youth House in Newark, police said.

In the second incident, a 13-year-old Newark teen was arrested on Nov. 12 after a police officer saw the teenaged boy acting suspiciously following a woman walking on Irvington Avenue near Seton Place. The address was the scene of a previous strong-armed robbery, police said.

Police asked the teen what he was doing and learned he was carrying a black semi-automatic pellet gun.

The teen was arrested on a weapons charge.

In the last incident, on Nov. 20 at approximately 5:45 p.m., police arrested three 15-year old boys – two from Newark and one from East Orange – after a teen reported he was assaulted on Ward Place.

The three teens were arrested for strong-armed robbery, police said.
