Three Robbed Thursday, One at Gunpoint Police Say

Three robberies, one involving a handgun, occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17.

The South Orange Police Department reported three cell phone robberies, one of which involved a handgun.

The three robberies all occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17.

At 8:35 a.m., a Seton Hall University Student was walking on Wilden Pl. near campus when two men approached her from behind, police said.

One of them men grabbed her iPhone and after a brief struggle, fled in a grey Dodge Caravan driving West on Wilden Pl., police said.

The thieves were described as two black males in their late teens and both were wearing hooded sweatshirts, according to the report.

At 7:30 p.m., a West Orange resident told police he was walking on South Orange Ave. near Sloan St. when an unknown man ran up from behind him and grabbed his cell phone out of his hand and fled.

The man is described as being a black male in his late teens, police said.

A South Orange man was walking on Irvington Ave. at 10:20 p.m. near Prospect St. when two men approached and pointed a handgun at him.

According to police, the men demanded his money and took his wallet, watch and cell phone before fleeing near Cottage St.

They were described as black males approximately 5'8" in height wearing blue jeans and dark hooded sweatshirts.

The Detective Bureau is currently investigating all incidents.
