  • Essex County Sheriff: Sheriff Armando Fontoura, a Democrat, will square off against Orlando Mendez in November.
  • 10th Congressional District: Donald Payne Jr., the Newark Council President and the son of the deceased congressman bearing the same name will square off against Republican Brian C. Keleman of Bayonne in November to represent parts of Essex — including South Orange — , Hudson and Union counties.
  • U.S. Senate: U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D), the junior United States Senator from New Jersey who was first appointed in 2006 to fill Jon Corzine's seat, takes on Republican challenger Joe Kyrillos, who easily defeated three opponents in the primary.
  • U.S. President: President Barack Obama will presumptively face former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in a campaign that has already focused heavily on the economy and job growth.

You can't vote this morning at SOMS, if you're in District 13 because the officials don't have the books and now can't find the books. Voting for president is a serious moment that only comes once every four years for us, how can anyone be denied that right due to such carelessness. This polling location should stay open later to allow people their opportunity to vote after work and a three hour commute home.

Will the polling location remain open later for the voters who were denied the right to vote this morning? Many of us will be unable to return before the current closing hours due to the above mentioned three hour commute. Being disenfranchised is not acceptable.
