Second Trustee Decides Not to Run

Nancy Gould will complete her term, but not run again.

Trustee Nancy Gould annouced Tuesday that she will not seek another term on the Village Board of Trustees.

Gould released the following statement:

In May 2009 I was elected as a member of the South Orange Board of Trustees.  It's been an interesting and satisfying four years, and I'm honored to have served the residents of South Orange.

During my BOT tenure, I have always tried to "do the right thing" for the residents of the village. My goal has been to provide the best possible services for the residents while carefully watching the fiscal implications of each vote I make. I hope the residents understand that I worked hard and that my only motivation was to serve the village.

I am very proud of the work I have done on the BOT. I've served as the Chairperson of the Recreation and Cultural Affairs Committee and I am happy with many changes that have come about during my time as chair, including adult night at the pool and this year's highly anticipated Memorial Day weekend pool opening. I'm also happy about our newly formed South Orange Village Center Alliance. I believe this was one of the most important decisions made by the BOT during my term, and I've enjoyed working as the BOT representative to this hardworking and energized organization. I've worked on countless other committees and issues, far too numerous to mention here, but all important to the growth of South Orange.

Although I've truly enjoyed my time on the BOT and feel I've contributed a great deal to the village, I have made the decision not to run for a second term.

I've dedicated countless hours to the BOT and village issues, and I find that time is  short for many activites I'd like to pursue. I hope to use my newly found "idle hours" to focus on my career and family, join new volunteer activities, and spend quality time with all the books I've neglected over the past years.

I'd like to thank the residents of South Orange for electing me to office. And I'd also like to thank the village staff who worked with me on various issues over the past four years. You have been terrific and I  appreciate your help and support during my term.

I do hope that many of you reading this will decide to give the BOT a try and run for office this May. I'm happy to discuss the BOT with anyone interested. Please reach out to me at msgould@aol.com.
