South Orange Establishes Public Information & Marketing Committee

last night announced that the Public Information & Marketing Committee has been re-established and is looking for community volunteers. The Committee was originally established in 2008 by resolution, re-established in 2011 by resolution and most recently re-established by the Village President under an executive declaration in the September 10th Board of Trustees meeting.

The committee's goals will be:

1. Advising the Village on timely and effective communication to the community
2. Assisting in the implementation and execution of marketing, communication and outreach strategies on behalf of the Village
3. Assisting the Village President in recommending to the Board of Trustees policies needed to further these goals

The committee will have five resident seats, in addition to roles for representatives from the , Seton Hall University, the School District, the newly formed Special Improvement District Board, and a trustee liaison and the Village President, as well as an ex-officio representative from the village administration.

Village President Torpey remarked, "I'm really happy to be bringing some more residents into the process of how we do our communications... they are the best to know what the community needs and we are going to have some really fun and interesting projects to work on, like helping re-do the website, advising the Board on policy, exploring ways to improve informal/conversational meeting spaces, as well as possibly my favorite, the creation of the South Orange Social Media Force Multipliers, a wider group of people dedicated to helping improving South Orange's exposure on social media."

Trustee Howard Levison, who has expressed interest in serving as the trustee liaison to this committee said, "I'm looking forward to the PIC getting going again. There are a number of projects that enhance our communications and transparency we have wanted to work on, and having resident input will be valuable in assisting us with these various projects."
