Updated: Columbia HS College Picks by the Numbers

The Class of 2012 will attend colleges all over the country. Check out the list!

Editor's Note: The list of CHS college destinations now includes the number of students who will attend a given school. If only the school name is listed, one student will attend. Please let us know if anyone has been omitted from the list.

The Columbia High School Class of 2012 is headed to college! The school district today released a list of where students plan to pursue their education in the fall and, for some, as soon as July.

Please note this list is the students' final choices, and does not reflect the range of schools where seniors were accepted.

Congratulations to the Class of 2012!

Chip, I will try to find out. I'm wondering about the Mount Holyoke College students for the same reason!

Such a poor representation, both in percentage of the class attending college, and the quality of the colleges compared to 35+ years ago.
Morrisa da Silva July 10, 2012 at 01:36 PM
You do of course realize that college acceptance has gotten way more competitive over the last say 20 years or so. Many parents of students that attended Ivy league schools realize this when their sons/daughters with way more impressive HS stats and experiences fail to gain entrance. Not to mention that many colleges that were Tier 2 or 3 that many years ago are now closer to Tier 1 these days. Oh and let's not even talk about the costs of attending college these days compared to 35+ years ago. Your comment is ignorant on many levels

Thank you for that response. The main focus should be supporting those that are moving in a positive direction. Encouraging those to not focus on where they obtain their higher education, but to take full advantage of the opportunity that is presented to them

I went to Cornell. My three daughters went to University of Illinois. Cost of an Ivy education now is about $200,000 per. Regrettably, I simply could not afford to send them to more expensive schools, and could not (especially in this economy) recommend that either they or I add debt. My two graduates got jobs in their fields immediately after graduating; the third is still at college.

Hello. As the writer of this article, I'm happy to pursue this further. However, there is, to my knowledge, no record of college choices from classes of that era. If you have that info, please get in touch. Marciaw@patch.com
