We want to thank Jennifer Payne-Parrish, Amy Higer, and Tia Swanson for their strong, values-driven campaigns and for their dedication.
They as well as we have contributed to a new chapter in the great story of civic activism in Maplewood and South Orange.
Over the next three years, the three of us will endeavor to advance an ambitious, progressive vision and mission for our schools that makes South Orange and Maplewood leaders. We need to take into account how the world and our own communities are becoming increasingly cosmopolitan, increasingly competitive, increasingly in need of cooperation and teamwork, and increasingly oriented toward choice and empowerment rather than command and control approaches. We are excited about playing a part in what we see as a great opportunity to move our district in a forward-thinking direction.
In our Board service, we pledge to respect others who have different viewpoints, to be collegial in our shared work, and to uphold a spirit of inclusiveness. We—all the adults and all the children of our towns--are all SOMA together. We will strive to keep that principle always in our minds and in our hearts.
