In the Heart of a Gypsy Caravan...

CONTEMPORARY FOLK BAND BLACKMORE’S NIGHT ON THE SOPAC STAGE THURSDAY 11/7

If you’re a fan of Renaissance festivals or just intrigued by them, be sure to stop by SOPAC the night of Thursday, November 7th at 7:30pm. It’ll be an ethereal night of magic and mystery! The traditional folk band Blackmore Night brings some rock, folk, lyrical, emotive and evocative music to South Orange.  Basically, it’s the closest we’ll get to attending a Renaissance fair taking audiences right into the heart of a gypsy caravan!

Blackmore’s Night is a traditional folk band that is comprised of core members Ritchie Blackmore (guitars, mandolin, domra, hurdy gurdy) and Candice Night (vocals, chanter, cornamuse, shawm, rauschpfeife, tambourine). Legendary Deep Purple and Rainbow guitarist Ritchie Blackmore shifted his musical focus away from hard rock in the late 1990s and started concentrating on his love of Renaissance-era music. He formed Blackmore's Night with his wife, vocalist/lyricist Candice Night and recruited other musicians from around the world to combine elements of world music, renaissance, new age, folk, and rock & roll. Blackmore didn't exactly retire his Fender Stratocaster, but he plays acoustic guitar almost exclusively in Blackmore's Night. His acoustic guitar melodies and Night's clear, ethereal voice blend with a host of instruments such as mandolins, keyboards, pennywhistles, violins, tambourines, military drums, and hurdy-gurdies.

The group’s much-awaited album, Dancer and the Moon takes you beyond the expected and gives you an experience that is true Blackmore’s Night.  Based on Long Island, the group tours its new CD throughout America with a stop in South Orange!
