On Thursday evening, those of us who were registered for The Adult School's Wine to Love for $15 or Less, were treated to another incredible wine tasting class with Diane Letulle. Diane writes the Wine Lover's Journal and boy does she know her wine! All wines that were tasted on that night were priced between $11 and $15 at the Wine Library in Springfield. We started off with a surprising Gruet Sparkling from New Mexico and then moved on to a Martin Codax Albarine from Galicia, Spain that everyone loved. Others that were sampled were a 2010 Verdicchio di Matelica from the Marches region of Italy, a Herman Wiemer Semi-Dry Riesling from the Finger Lakes region, a Greek red wine, a 2009 Vina Robles Red 4 and a 2010 Grand Veneur Champauvins Cotes du Rhone. Diane suggested that if you are looking for good value in the US, look beyond California to Oregon, washington State and the Finger Lakes and New Mexico. Outside the US, she sugessted Rhone wines, white wines from Macon in southern Burgundy and wines from Alsace for French wines and Portugal, especially wines from the Douro Valley. Our wine tastings are great evenings of learning about wines and enjoying good companionship. Our spring wine tasting is Wines of the Southern Hemisphere and will take place on April 4. Don't miss out! Our catalogue will be online next week and in homes around the middle of January. See you at the Adult School!
