Early Bird Pool Registration Ends Wednesday

May 15 is last day for reduced rate.

 

It might be a bit chilly to be thinking about swimming, but pool season is almost here.

The South Orange Community Pool will open Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-27 and weekends thereafter through Sunday, June 23rd. Beginning Monday, June 24th, regular season hours will begin.

Recreation ID badges are available now for 2013 at the Baird Center. Wednesday, May 15 is the last day for Early Bird registration at a discounted rate.

South Orange Recreation & Cultural Affairs I.D. Badges for 2013 are available for purchase  and renewal at the Baird. Residents in possession of a 2012 I.D. can renew in person or by mail (see details below).  All purchasing or renewing are encouraged to act now to take advantage of lower fees and to avoid long lines as summer approaches. The benefits of this I.D. badge include access to the community pool, discounts on many department programs and reduced fees for tennis and platform tennis court use.  

Residents wishing to purchase or renew a Village I.D. must provide 2 forms of identification verifying South Orange residency.  Acceptable forms of I.D. include a valid driver''s license, car registration/insurance and a current utility bill (less than 2 months old).  The name of the resident and their current South Orange address must appear on each form of identification.

NEW I.D. CARDS ARE NOT NEEDED FOR ALL RESIDENTS 
While residents must renew their membership annually, new CARDS are not necessary every year. Since 2011, the cards issued have included a barcode that is reactivated when the membership renewal has been completed. I.D. cards are to be kept by residents for year-to-year renewal.

YOU MAY RENEW YOUR I.D. BADGE BY MAIL OR IN PERSON IF:

You held a valid South Orange Dept. of Recreation & Cultural Affairs I.D. Badge in 2012,
You still have your  2012  I.D. card/s, AND
Photos are current*. 
*Children must have photos every 3 years and adults every 5 years. If your child''s card has ''Photo Year: Pre 2011'' printed on the bottom left corner, he/she must have a new photo taken. When photos are requested or required, old I.D. cards must be turned into the Baird at renewal. If prior year I.D. cards cannot be produced, a $10 replacement fee will be charged.

TO RENEW BY MAIL
Residents meeting the requirements listed above may submit their renewal information by mail. 

Copy (do NOT send originals) 2 forms of I.D. listed above. Applications without proper identification will be returned.
Return the application, copies of 2 proofs of residency and payment to:  South Orange Dept. of Recreation & Cultural Affairs at The Baird, 5 Mead Street, South Orange, NJ 07079.
Transactions will be processed within one week of receipt of the mail application at The Baird. Please be sure to include your e:mail address on the form. You will receive an e:mail verification that your transaction has been processed and I.D. Badge/s will be good for 2013 use.

IN PERSON RENEWAL IS REQUIRED (and new photos will be taken) FOR:

Residents who held a valid I.D. in 2012 but did not keep their card/s and need replacement/s. A $10 I.D. Replacement Fee will be charged in addition to the annual membership fee.
New South Orange residents (birth certificate required for all minors)
First-time applicants (birth certificate required for all minors)
Residents who held valid I.D. in 2012 but need new photo/s
Residents without the proper identification
BAIRD HOURS FOR IN PERSON PURCHASE OR RENEWAL
Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am-9:30 pm
Friday and Saturday, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
Closed Sundays

FEES
JANUARY 1 TO MAY 15: $30 per person. Maximum family* fee $120 (4+ members).
AFTER MAY 15:   $35 per person. Maximum family* fee $140. 
REPLACEMENT FEE: There is a replacement fee of $10 for all badges lost after issuance. There is NO replacement fee when a new card is required or requested for photo updating, provided that the prior year''s card is turned in at the Baird.

*FAMILY is defined as parent/s and dependent children living in the same household
