South Orange Marks Memorial Day

Officials, firefighters, police, Boy Scouts, SORS, Gold Star families marked the holiday.

In a solemn ceremony highlighted by the reading aloud of South Orange's fallen military by name, the community marked Memorial Day.

With an invocation given by Msgr. Robert Emery of Our Lady of Sorrows, members of the public were urged to "be grateful" for freedoms bought by sacrifice.

The Monday ceremony was held at the Memorial Rock near the Duck Pond. Members of the South Orange Fire Department, Police Department, Rescue Squad, Village administration and elected officials were in attendance. They included Village President Alex Torpey, trustees Mark Rosner and Sheena Collum, and former trustee Janine Bauer.  Boy Scout Troop 60 provided the honor guard and the VFW led the service.
