Turnover Returns on Tuesday Night

Bric-a-brac, baby items, furnishings, and more are available at ongoing sale that benefits local and national charities.

Teens, toddlers and adults made their way from room to room Saturday morning as they checked out the abundance of wares available at the annual Turnover Sale at Morrow United Methodist Church. The sale continues on Tuesday evening, from 7:30 until 9:30.

Located at 600 Ridgewood Road, the sale was sponsored by The United Methodist Women, a group based at Morrow. The event was the second -- and probably warmest -- of several scheduled to take place during the month of July.

“I like to call it the miracle on Baker Street,” said Mary Auth, who co-chairs the group with Joyce Stibitz and Andrea Wren-Hardin. “People in the community are very generous.” United Methodist Women began accepting donations soon after Father’s Day. Although calls started coming in as early as April, the group had to wait until June for storage space in the church to become.

“The rooms fill up in two weeks because there are just so many items,” Auth continued. “We also have many of the same volunteers who come back every year. They include members of the church and people who really just want to help out and give of their time.

Items on sale include furniture, frames, books, holiday decorations, towels, sheets, paintings, bric-a-brac, clothing, jewelry, antique vases, shoes, scrapbooking paraphernalia, mattresses, baby car seats, and more.

Recipients of the funds raised at the Turnover Sale include Goodwill Industries in Newark, the Vietnam Veterans Association, and the Salvation Army. In addition, book donations will be made to children in Africa. “We give to local and state charities,” said Auth. “Our goal this year is to raise as much money as we have in previous years, which has been as much as $65,000.”

Additional dates for the Turnover Sale are Tuesdays - July 10th, 17th (7:00pm – 9:00pm); Saturday – July 14th (9:30am – 12:30pm). The last day of the sale is Thursday – July 19st(9:30am – 12:30pm).
