Memorial Blood Drive

In September 2000 after a lengthy struggle with cancer Avia Bearg, sister of Jersey Tribe member Isaac Bearg passed away. As tragic as her death was to those who knew her, her life was prolonged by MANY blood transfusions from selfless donors.

Cancer is the #1 use of blood transfusions and to honor her life and to help those who may be struggling in their battle with cancer and other illness, Isaac has organized a blood drive at Oheb Shalom Congregation (170 Scotland Road in South Orange) on Sunday, September 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The last blood drive in Avia’s memory collected 44 pints and helped 132 people in need. Let’s reach 50 this time!!!

FAQ
How do I sign up to give blood???
For now just RSVP yes, but soon there will be a link to register.

I’m not in the area/can’t stand needles what can I do?
Well if you’ve ever had blood drawn for a medical exam this is NO worse. Understand you’re saving lives so if you can give please do so.

But wait I barely know/can’t stand Isaac or didn’t know Avia…
Ok that’s cool… but cancer still sucks and you probably know someone affected by it. Do it in their honor. September also happens to be Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

How do I know if I’m eligible?
If you’re generally healthy and over 110 lbs you’re probably eligible. Please DO NOT assume you can’t give. Check this website http://www.bloodnj.org/PDF_Stuff/donorrequirements.pdf

It’s being held at a synagogue do I need to be Jewish?
Nope.
