I found this place to be overpriced (2 double burgers w/cheese, 1 large order of fries, 1 lemonade, 1 bottled water = $25...for lunch?) and the quality of the food to be disappointing. I only went because we had a groupon and even with that, it was NOT a good value. The meat in the burgers was not high quality and the lemonade contained about 3 ounces of fluid once you took into account the huge amount of ice and 2 lemon halves shoved in the cup. With so many high quality burger places near by (Elevation Burger, Smash Burger, & Five Guys all in Montclair), don't waste your time & money in this place.

Stony Johnson, who previously owned Stony Hill Creamery, and business partner Mike Henry found a need for a casual dining spot in South Orange. So together they opened Stony's, a local meeting spot that serves burgers, hotdogs and all kinds of trimmings. The restaurant seats 49, and extra seating is available on the terrace.

Stony's is quite a busy place on the weekend I did not stay to eat I ordered to go and have to say I agree with all the other posts that the lobster roll was simply divine. I hope to return one day to sit and eat.
After passing the patio of Stony's one night during the Summer it took me about a month to get one of the items on the menu I had been craving most, the lobster roll!! All I can say is it was well worth the wait. I took my lobster roll to go, when I got home and unwrapped it, I wasn't so sure of my decision because it looked like more bun than lobster, after the first bite I saw I was mistaken, there was tons of meat. For someone like me who loves lobster so much, I ate VERY slowly, I wanted to savor each and every bite. The lobster was in chunks, really nice size chunks, the claws were even great size. I was so impressed, I may even go back tomorrow, next on my radar are their fish tacos. Can't wait!
One problem with this place is that, in my opinion, it is not run like a professional business. In that respect, its not that much different, in my view, from the owners' prior business, the Stony Hill Creamery. Evidence of the erratic and unprofessional conduct of this business is not hard to see. In my experience, hours of operation are, at best, rough guidelines; don't test the opening or closing time too closely if you would like to actually get food. I've experienced home delivery to be especially capricious. If you get lucky, they will actually deliver as advertised. Otherwise, you may have getting some poorly trained teenager telling you "we don't deliver on Wednesdays after 6 pm" or "we don't deliver in the summer." (You go ahead and fill in the arbitrary rule/excuse). Food quality, in my opinion, is too variable. Sometimes not enough quality is paid to ingredients, as burgers for example have occasionally had grit or foreign matter in the ground beef. Fries are often undercooked and not sufficiently drained of grease and cooking oil. In short, even in restaurant-starved South Orange/Maplewood, in my opinion, you can do a lot better.
Stony's Grill wait till you try the newly opened fresh grilled fish and lobster rolls outside on the new patio . Everything is grilled in front of your eyes fresh daily enjoy free live entertainment on a warm night with great food and a bottle of your own wine . Excellent and very reasonable
Honestly, haven't tried any of the grill items yet, but STONY'S SALAD is awesome! Went today with my daughter (4yo) and she knocked back the whole thing, refusing to share. I find myself craving that salad. Yum yum yum.
I took my family the other day. The fries and hamburgers rocked and the place was very comfortable. The prices were great and the place is extremely clean.

My wife is from Thailand; she has been here in NJ for four years.
We went to Fuddruckers for a burger. She said after how much better, "the burgers was not as good the place we went to in South Orange." That is the best burger I have had since I have been in America."
