Parks and Recreation Facilities

Who to Call: For information about South Orange's parks and recreation facilities, call Andrew Brady, at the Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs, 973-378-7754.
The Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs is housed in the Baird Community Center at the edge of Meadowland Park at 5 Mead St. It's home to the Senior Services Unit office and a pre-school program. There are outdoor basketball and tennis courts to the side of the center with lighting for night play. It's also home to three local theater companies.
South Orange has 12 parks, playgrounds and athletic fields. The most popular destination for walking and jogging is the County-maintained South Mountain Reservation, which isn't technically in South Orange.
