WASTE MANAGEMENT

• Village residents are required to contract with a private waste management company to pick up trash every week.
• One such company is South Orange Disposal, which has an office at 185 Church St. but also does trash pickup in Morris, Hudson, Bergen, Middlesex, Somerset, Union and Passaic counties.
• Rates are determined by the state Board of Public Utilities.

LARGE-ITEM/APPLIANCE DISPOSAL

• Pick-up dates for appliances and all-metal items are Jan. 6, Feb. 10, March 10, April 7, May 12, June 9, July 7, Aug. 11, Sept. 8, Oct. 13, Nov. 10 and Dec. 8. An appointment is required.
• Pick-up dates for large household items are Jan. 8, Feb. 13, March 12, April 9, May 14, June 11, July 9, Aug. 13, Sept. 10, Oct. 15, Nov. 12 and Dec. 10.
• The Village schedules container days from April through September (dates TBA), when residents can drop off large items at the Department of Public Works' yard, 300 Walton Ave.
  • People must show two forms of ID to prove residency.
  • PERMITTED: furniture, mattresses, appliances, branches under 4 inches in diameter, metal items, toys, small household items, tools, strollers and playpens.
  • NOT PERMITTED: paint cans, propane bottles, any hazardous chemicals and their containers, construction materials, grass clippings, household garbage, automotive parts, batteries, stumps, root sections, branches measuring more than 4 inches in diameter and railroad ties.

• Christmas trees are picked up by the DPW after the holidays. They should be deposited curbside without any other trash items.

COMPOST

• Small quantities of humus and shredded wood for composting are available at the DPW yard, 300 Walton Ave.
• Residents can also schedule a delivery, but the supply is limited.
