South Orange Village Alliance Center is a non-profit, community-based volunteer organization working to…More revitalize downtown South Orange. Its membership consists of both residents and businesses. It works under the umbrella of Main Street New Jersey and the Main Street Center established by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Designated in 1991, it's the longest-operating Main Street community in New Jersey.
South Orange Village Alliance Center's office is in Village Hall. It organizes events to promote local businesses, like a Holiday Open House in which participating merchants provide entertainment and refreshments to entice shoppers in December.
The Board meets at Village Hall on the second Tuesday of every month at 8pm. It has separate committees for organization — design (focused on new development, facades and signage), economic development (focused on bringing businesses to vacant spaces, which are listed on the website) and promotions. Membership dues are recommended at $125 for businesses and $75 for residents. Lisa Hackett is the executive director.
