The Strollers, the residential community theater company, presents The Music Man at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts, 10 Durand Rd, Maplewood. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. on May 3 and 4, May 10 and 11, and May 17 and 18; and Sundays, May 5 and May 12 at 2 p.m. The Music Man is the classic family musical about a con man who sells band instruments and uniforms to unsuspecting rural towns, until he meets a certain Iowan librarian. An "insidious Britishness" is taking over the cast of Arrr! A Very British Panto as they get closer to the performance, which runs from Jan. 4-6. Gareth Jones, founder of Deadgood LLC (the company producing the show), created the Panto along with director Ridley McIntyre. Jones describes it as a "supremely silly family show," perfect for young children to adults. "Panto" is the informal word for "pantomime," which is a beloved form of UK vaudeville-style musical comedy theater. "If the shows are as much fun as the rehearsals, this is gonna be tremendous," said Jones. Salem witch hunts come to Burgdorff in The Crucible by interACT.
Susan Holtz and Suz Stone of Maplewood can be seen in The Crucible, Arthur Miller's well-known Colonial “witch hunt,” when it plays at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts in Maplewood over two weekends in October. It is being presented by interACT Theatre Productions. The Crucible provides a harrowing glimpse of the living nightmare of the 17th-century Salem Witch Trials. The play features a group of troubled girls in Puritan Salem whose accusations of witchcraft and devil-worship spiral out of control into mass trials and hangings in which every good citizen is soon pointing the finger at their neighbor and crying out for their blood. “Unfortunately, the witch hunts are not isolated in the past,” said Director Nicholas J.
