Columbia HS Fencers Snag Gold, Bronze Medals

Both the South Orange - Maplewood boys and girls triumphed in the State Finals

Columbia High School fencers brought home the bling on Weds., winning both gold and bronze in the State Championship final fencing bouts at Morris Hills in Rockaway. The boys' squad took home gold, led by undefeated sophomore Bryn Hammarberg. Girls defeated Livingston to take bronze.

Columbia HS Fencers Advance, Go for State Honors

The South Orange - Maplewood fencers have another medal-winning season

The Columbia High School Fencing Team has advanced to the New Jersey State Championship match.  On Wednesday, February 27, the CHS Girls team will compete for the Bronze Medal, and the CHS Boys will fence for the Gold Medal and the State Title.  Spectators and supports are welcome to cheer on the school's sabre, epee and foil fencers at the season finale.  The championship matches will be held at the Morris Hills High School.  The start time for the Girls' Bronze Medal Round is 4:30 PM.  The Boy's team will go for the Gold at 7:30 PM.   Morris Hills High School is located at 520 West Main Street in Rockaway, NJ.  Please note that to reach the parking lot, it is necessary to take West Main Street to Swedes Mine Road and then Overlook Drive…

Columbia HS Fencers Advance to Sweet 16

Both boys and girls advance in the NJ State Championship.

Columbia High School Fencing is once again in top form. Both the boys' and girls' CHS Fencing teams have advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in the NJ State Championship. Columbia HS Fencers Succeed at Junior Olympic Qualifying Tournament

The event was held in late November

Fencers from Columbia High School made an impressive showing at the Junior Olympic Qualifying Tournament held at Rutgers University on November 24 and 25. Over the two-day event, which drew hundreds of top-ranked fencers from throughout the state, 10 student-athletes from Columbia High School qualified to compete in the United States Junior Olympics, to be held in Baltimore, MD, this February.   With  top-eight finishes in their respective qualifying events, junior Alexandra Viqueira (sabre) qualified to compete in the U20 and U17 events, while sophomore Celia Accardi (sabre) and junior Najiyyah Clark (foil) qualified to compete in the U17 event. (PHOTOS) CHS Girls Win State Fencing Championship

CHS Girls Fencing Win State Champs 14-13; clinched at 14-12. Boys lost 14-13 on the last bout.

The Columbia High School Girls Fencing Team beat Montgomery High, 14-13, last night to win the NJSIAA/Bollinger Championships at Morris Hills in Rockaway. It was the girls first state championship since 2008. Boosting the girls to victory were Haley Hart, who went 3-0 in epee, Alexis Auer at 2-1 in epee, and Rachel Viqueira, who went 3-0 in foil.
