Win Tickets to NJPAC For Friday Night's "Drumline" Show

There will be Rythm and Blues music, top 40 hits, detailed choreography and drums. Lots of drums. The New Jersey Performing Arts Center is bringing the excitement of an actual drumline to the center stage on Friday night at 8 p.m. in Prudential Hall. On Friday night, the excitement seen in the 2002 movie "Drumline" will be re-created in the show "Drumline Live" that will showcase eras of American history using percussion and brass instruments along with professional choreography. In the movie starring Nick Cannon and Zoe Saldana, viewers saw a dramatization of a drumline-led marching band that takes place at historically black colleges and universities. 'America's Got Talent' Experience Gets Thumbs Up

Patch editors score tickets to live taping of 'America's Got Talent' at New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark – and they liked what they saw

Even despite my inherent love as a reporter for the occasional happy, heart-wrenching human-interest story, I was skeptical of what I was about to sit through Tuesday night during a live taping of "America's Got Talent." A miniature mariachi singer belting out a love ballad? Muscular men clogging in tight jeans in front of a massive American flag? Tiny dancers cartwheeling in nauseating succession? For two full hours? This was not the Newark I knew. This was some alternate universe. Three jazz vocalists will pay homage to such legendary women singers as Miriam Makeba and Abbey Lincoln at the New Jersey Performing Art Center’s performance of "Sing the Truth" Sunday afternoon. And Patch wants you to be there. So, we’re giving away three pairs of tickets for Patch readers for the 3 p.m performance.
