Plan to attack New York City collapsed after carjacked vehicle ran low on gas, police commissioner says.
The Boston Marathon bombers hatched a last-minute plot to detonate their remaining explosives in New York City's Times Square, but the scheme fell apart when they realized that their carjacked SUV was low on gas, city officials said Thursday. Don't worry about leaving your New Year's Eve Party in Hoboken early. The PATH is running 24/7 on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced on Monday. This will be the first time the PATH is running round the clock since Hurricane Sandy. Until then, service runs between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. every day. The Hoboken station was reopened last week after being closed for nearly two months. Hoboken service remains suspended, but the Port Authority and NJ Transit are offering alternate routes for commuters.
Getting into New York City will be a little easier this week. PATH service to the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan will resume Monday morning, according to the PATH website. Trains to the World Trade Center have been canceled since sustaining damage during Hurricane Sandy. PATH trains will run weekdays between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m in New Jersey through Newark, Harrison, Journal Square, Grove Street and Exchange Place. The final stops in New York City will be at the World Trade Center and 33rd St. Christopher and 9th St. stations in New York City have been restored to full service.
